Repairs

Can my dentures be repaired?
Many breaks, cracks and loose teeth can be repaired professionally. Avoid DIY repair kits or household glues, as they can damage the denture and affect the fit. Keep all pieces and make an enquiry.
Can I get urgent help if my denture breaks?
Call 01538 834152 before travelling. We will ask what happened, check availability and explain what to bring. We cannot confirm a repair or turnaround until the denture has been assessed.
Can you add a tooth to an existing denture?
An addition may be possible, but it depends on the denture, the reason the tooth is being added and the wider dental plan. Keep the denture safe and ask us what assessment or dentist involvement is needed.
What should I bring for a repair?
Bring the complete denture and every broken piece in a clean container. Do not glue, file, bend or heat it. A photograph may help us prepare, but it cannot confirm whether the denture is repairable.

New dentures

What happens at the first consultation?
We'll discuss your needs, concerns and preferences. Where appropriate, we'll assess your mouth and talk through suitable options.
How many appointments will I need?
This depends on the denture and what is needed. We'll explain the expected appointments after assessment.
How long does it take to make new dentures?
It depends on the denture, the records and try-in stages needed, appointment availability and whether another clinician is involved. We will explain the proposed stages and realistic appointment needs after assessment.
What's the difference between NHS and private dentures?
The service route, available options, materials, planning stages and charges can differ. An NHS dentist can explain what NHS care is available to you; we can explain the private denture service offered here so you can compare the relevant facts.
When does a dentist need to be involved?
A dentist needs to assess and manage concerns involving natural teeth, pain, swelling, unexplained mouth changes, extractions and implant placement or health. We will explain when coordination or records are needed for denture care.

Fit & comfort

Do dentures need adjusting after fitting?
It is normal to need minor adjustments as your mouth adapts. We'll advise on what is expected and what needs checking.
Why do dentures feel loose over time?
Over time, your gums and jawbone can change shape, which can affect how dentures fit. A reline, adjustment or replacement may be recommended depending on comfort, stability and wear.
What is a denture reline?
A reline reshapes the fitting surface of your denture so it sits more comfortably and securely against your gums. Relines can help if your dentures feel loose due to natural changes in the mouth.
How long do dentures last?
Dentures need reviewing over time because your mouth changes. We may advise a reline, adjustment or replacement based on fit and condition.
Can I use denture adhesive?
Adhesive can help some people, especially while adjusting to new dentures. It should not be used to mask a poor fit, so loose dentures should be assessed.
What should I do about a sore area?
Stop forcing the denture into place and ask for advice. Contact a dentist if soreness persists, the area is bleeding, or you notice swelling, an ulcer or a lump that does not settle. Seek urgent advice for severe or spreading symptoms.

Implant-retained

Do you offer implant-retained dentures?
Yes - for patients who already have implants placed or are planning treatment with an implant clinician. We can work alongside your implant team where appropriate.
Who checks the implants?
Implant suitability, placement and health must be assessed by the appropriate dentist or implant clinician. We focus on the denture and compatible attachments, coordinating with that clinician where needed.
Do implant-retained dentures need maintenance?
Yes. The denture, attachments, implants and surrounding tissues need cleaning and review. Contact your implant clinician if you notice pain, swelling, bleeding, discharge or movement around an implant.

Mouthguards

What are sports mouthguards and who are they for?
Sports mouthguards are worn to reduce the risk of injury from a blow to the mouth during contact or collision activities. No mouthguard prevents every injury, and the wearer should also use the protective equipment required for their sport.
When should a sports mouthguard be replaced?
Ask for a review if it is split, distorted, loose, tight or has a sharp edge, or after significant dental treatment. Growing mouths and orthodontic treatment can change the fit, so the treating dentist or orthodontic clinician may need to advise on timing.
